Canoe Safari in Botswana
If you are looking for a safari with a difference, the ultimate safari adventure is a 4 day canoe trail deep in the wilds of Botswana. The Selinda Canoe Trail meanders along the Selinda Spillway, which is the linking arm of Botswana’s waterways; connecting the Linyanti, Kwando and the Okavango Delta.
Your days will be spent paddling the waterways where you encounter an abundance of wildlife along the river banks. Impromptu stops allow opportunities to get out on foot searching for animal tracks. The opportunity to relax is, however, never far away with a midday siesta to look forward to, after a bit of brunch of course. Accompanied by 7 other guests your journey of exploration and adventure will glimpse a different side to the Selinda Reserve and its vast 320,000-acres. There are many species to see along the way including elephant, sable, buffalo, roan and wild dog. The area is also renowned for the diversity of its bird life, so binoculars at the ready. To put your mind at ease the spillway has relatively few hippos or crocodiles making for a relaxed experience.
Travels continue until dark when camp is set up along the river bank. To add to the excitement of it all, there are no designated campsites and so spots are chosen spontaneously. Dinner is had around the campfire under the clear star-filled skies of Botswana before you catch some shut-eye in anticipation of a dawn wake-up call.
The Selinda Caneo Trail operates during the annual flooding of the Selinda Spillway from mid April to early October, depending on water levels.
